We've started making compressed earth blocks
With a block press we make CEBs to build the mission house, the school and the health centre, and we teach young people a trade.
We have started making CEBs (compressed earth blocks), with a twofold purpose: on the one hand, to be a source of support for the workers; on the other, a way of connecting with the young people of the village by teaching them a trade that can give them work.
The machine
We bought a block press from a Brazilian missionary for €2,000. So far we have paid 3 of the 4 instalments.
The raw material is well-sifted earth mixed with a small amount of cement. The machine compresses it with 5,000 kg of force, and each block withstands the heat very well.
What we want to build
- The missionaries' house: 5,000 blocks.
- The school: 5,000 blocks.
- The health centre: 8,000 blocks.
